It has become obvius that a platform, where the actors in the field of heritage management could meet and discuss topics cross border of any specialists meeting, is needed. The Cultural Heritage Forum offers a platform where knowledge and ideas can be exchanged on regional bases.
On the kind invitation by the Polish Minister of Culture, the 1st Cultural Heritage Forum in the Baltic Sea Region was held in Gdansk in 2003. The Forum was well attended and more than 60 speakers shared their experience with an audience of around 100 coming from all around the Baltic Sea. The theme of the Forum was "Baltic Sea Identity Common Sea Common Culture?" Many ideas and themes were discussed. The outcome of the Forum was published in a volume which has been sold out immediately after it appeared.
On the kind invitation by the National Heritage Board of Finland, the 2nd Forum was held in Helsinki 2005. The presentations and displays at the Forum proved how urban heritage creates pattern of continuity, providing cultural diversity and enhancing social stability to local communities. At the outdoor Market Site craftsmen displayed their skills, materials and methods on traditional construction and repair. The Forum had over 200 participants. The final publication "Urban Heritage - Collective Privilege" presents the forum discussions on cultural heritage cooperation around the Baltic Sea.
On the kind invitation by the Ministry of Culture and the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania, the 3rd Forum took place in Vilnius 25-27 September 2007 focusing on enhancement of sustainable cultural tourism. The theme was; "Cultural heritage and tourism: potential, impact, partnership and governance." The publication presenting the key messages of the Forum was published in 2008, and is translated to Lithuanian, too.
The 4th Cultural Heritage Forum of the Baltic Sea States will take place in Riga 8-11 September 2010.The theme is "Cultural heritage - contemporary challenge". More information is online on mantojums.lv-pages.
